4 Michelangelo Awards for 2018

Du Toitskloof Cape Ruby moves up a tier from last year's Double Gold medal, coming home with a coveted Platinum medal along with Gold awards for Quest, Land's End and Du Toitskloof Selected Vineyard ranges at this year's Michelangelo Awards.

The Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards saw a record number of 2255 wines and spirits entries in it's 22nd year, making this competition the largest of its kind in Africa. The judges handed out a total of 26 trophies, 36 Platinum medals and 150 Double Gold medals, including numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

"The judges are unanimous in their view that South Africa is making the finest wines in its history," says Lorraine Immelman, founder and CEO of the Michelangelo Awards.

Judges included British Masters of Wine, sommeliers, wine and spirits producers, educators, spirits experts and influential journalists from all over the world.

Congratulations to Shawn Thomson and his team of winemakers for receiving a Platinum medal for this year's Cape Ruby 2013, surpassing last year's older Cape Ruby 2010 vintage which was awarded a Double Gold medal. Our Cape Ruby is fortified with brandy spirits and is placed in French oak barrels for 12-18 months. The three cultivars used to make our Cape Ruby; Tinta Barocca, Souzåo and Touriga Naçional are all from Peet Smith's farm called Dagbreek.

Willie Stofberg's Bordeaux blend; Quest Heroes Journey 1 2012 was awarded Gold this year, still boasting at the top of Du Toitskloof's Platter's Guide Rating for 2018.

Land's End Sauvignon Blanc was also awarded Gold just after its recent Silver IWSC Award. This cold-climate Sauvignon Blanc bursts with flavour, subtle minerality and nuances of gooseberry and green notes. Our Pinotage Rosé also winning Gold at the Rosé Rocks! Awards a month ago enforced its position with another Gold from Michelangelo.
