90+ Winemag ratings for Du Toitskloof Fortifieds

Winemag’s Sweet Wine & Fortified Report was released this week and revealed ratings of 90+ points to both Du Toitskloof Red Muscadel 2019 and Du Toitskloof Cape Ruby 2013.

Du Toitskloof has been producing fortified wines since the 70s. Hot Breedekloof summers ensure that cultivars like Muscat d’ Alexandrie and Muscat de Frontignan ripen to produce the sugar levels that are perfect for making these little royal dessert wines. Despite the fact that fewer South Africans are drinking dessert wines nowadays, Napoleon and the rest of the ancient elite couldn't resist the taste of the infamous Cape of Good Hope sweets. Dessert wines are the building blocks of the South African wine industry as we know it today and we're very proud of our South African heritage. It, therefore, remains a treat for us to produce our own fortifieds which continue to grow a fan base abroad; enjoyed from as far as the beaches of Brazil to the high towers in Hong Kong.

Du Toitskloof Muscadel 2019 was awarded 90 points and one of only 3 Muscadels that were rated 90+. This vintage has also been awarded Platinum (95+) by SA Wine Index, Gold Veritas and 4-stars by the 2021 Platter's Wine Guide.

Our 2013 Cape Ruby is a blend of Portuguese varieties; Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional and Souzao. The wine was fortified by brandy spirits and rated 91 points by Winemag. The port-style wine has also been awarded both Platinum and Double Gold by Michelangelo Awards.
