Pinotage and Shiraz both under Winemag.co.za Top 10 Reports
Du Toitskloof’s two Winemag.co.za Top 10 wines in 2021 showcase not only Du Toitskloof’s consistency in producing quality wines at an affordable price but also the means to compete against any fine wine in the industry when tasted blind.
This year Winemag.co.za’s Pinotage and Shiraz Prescient Reports shine some well-deserved light on two red varietals that Du Toitskloof Wines have been producing for over two decades. 2021 not only sees Du Toitskloof Pinotage 2018 landing a spot in the Top 10 Pinotage Report that was released in June but also a Top 10 Shiraz in their latest Winemag.co.za Prescient Shiraz Report 2021; Du Toitskloof Shiraz 2018 stepped up to the plate with a staggering 94 points!
Entries to every report average at around 60-100 wines depending on the grape variety or special blend. Wines are tasted blind (with labels out of sight) by a three-person panel and scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale. Winemag.co.za’s Rating System is as such:
96-100 Points = Extraordinary/Profound
93-95 Points = Outstanding
90-92 Points = Excellent
Winemag.co.za produces 14 category reports every year that include key findings, tasting notes for the top wines, buyer’s guide, and scores on the 100-point quality scale for all wines entered.
Du Toitskloof Shiraz 2018 - 94 pts/Top 10
“Pretty overtones of flowers and fynbos before red berries and white pepper on the nose before a palate that’s light-bodied with appealing fruit expression, bright acidity and powdery tannins – succeeds handsomely on account of its modesty.” - Winemag.co.za
Du Toitskloof Pinotage 2018 - 92 pts/Top 10
“Particularly fragrant on the nose with notes of cranberry, pomegranate, flowers, and herbs while the palate has a lovely juicy sweetness about it but also crunchy tannins – accessible and refreshing.” - Winemag.co.za
Du Toitskloof Shiraz 2018 and Du Toitskloof Pinotage 2018 have been head to head this year, both achieving the exact same results and recognition in competitions thus far - Double Gold at the National Wine Challenge (NWC) 2021 and a Gold medal from Gilbert&Gaillard 2021.
